Thompson Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting

(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement to mark the one-year anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando Florida:

“Today marks the one year anniversary of our nation’s deadliest mass shooting: a terror attack which tragically claimed the lives of 49 men and women.  This act of terror and hate targeting the LGBT community will never be forgotten. This anniversary will forever serve as a day to honor the lives we lost and the local first responders who risked their lives to help those in need.  Although we continue to make great strides to improve the security of our nation, domestic terrorism remains a grave threat that we must confront. Only together can we counter the ideology and hate of those who want to do us harm.”
